Bathroom tiling
Full bathroom fit-outs, walls to ceiling, niches and hobs. Waterproofing certificate issued before a single tile goes on.
Bathrooms, kitchens, floors and outdoor tiling across [SERVICE AREA]. Licensed waterproofing to AS 3740, laser-levelled substrates, and a 10-year workmanship warranty — because a tiling failure isn't a tiling bill, it's a rebuild.
Most tiling complaints aren't about the tile — they're about lippage you can feel underfoot, grout that cracks in six months, and waterproofing that was rushed. We quote all three properly and show you the substrate before we cover it.
Full bathroom fit-outs, walls to ceiling, niches and hobs. Waterproofing certificate issued before a single tile goes on.
Subway, herringbone, mosaic and large-format. Cut around every power point cleanly — no silicone hiding a bad cut.
Large-format porcelain, timber-look plank, natural stone. Self-levelling compound where it's needed, laser-checked as we go.
Licensed membrane application to AS 3740, with photos of every stage and a compliance certificate for your records.
Alfresco areas, pool surrounds and stairs. Slip-rated tiles, correct falls to drainage, and movement joints where they belong.
Failing grout raked out and replaced, silicone renewed, tiles sealed. A fraction of a retile and it buys you years.
Water damage is consistently one of the most common and most expensive defects in Australian residential building work — and in a bathroom it almost always traces back to the membrane, not the tile.
The tile is the bit you're paying to look at. The membrane underneath is the bit that decides whether you're doing this again in four years with a plasterer and an insurance claim attached.
Strip out, check for movement, patch and self-level. A flat floor is not optional — it's the whole job.
Primer, bond breakers in every corner and junction, two full membrane coats, then the certificate.
We plan the cuts before we mix a bag. Full tiles where the eye lands, cuts where they hide — never a sliver at the door.
Full adhesive coverage, levelling clips on large format, and lippage checked as we go rather than at the end.
Grout to your chosen colour, natural stone sealed, and flexible silicone in every internal corner — not grout, which cracks.
Real jobs, no filters. Swap these for your own photos — the slider works on any pair of images.
Stratum Tiling started with one tiler who was tired of being called in to fix other people's waterproofing — always the same story, always four years after someone saved eight hundred dollars on the membrane.
So we itemise everything. Strip-out, levelling, waterproofing, setting out, laying, grout and silicone — each priced separately, so you can put our quote beside anyone else's and see exactly where the difference is.
If we open a wall and find something that wasn't in the scope, we stop, text you a photo and the cost, and don't touch it until you reply. We're a small crew serving [SERVICE AREA].

"Showed me the waterproofing photos before tiling and gave me the certificate at the end. The last bloke who did our ensuite did neither, and we found out the hard way."
"Laser-levelled the floor before starting and you can feel the difference — not one lipped edge across 40 square metres of large format. Worth every cent."
"Drew up the set-out so we didn't end up with a 20mm sliver at the doorway like the other quote suggested. Small thing that makes the whole room look right."
A full bathroom retile is typically 8–12 working days, and a fair chunk of that is drying time we can't rush — self-levelling compound, two membrane coats, then adhesive and grout. A kitchen splashback is 2–3 days. You get the start and finish dates in the quote.
Sometimes, on walls, if the existing tiles are sound and well bonded. On a wet-area floor, almost never — you can't waterproof reliably over old tile, and you lose height at the door and the waste. We'll tell you honestly which situation you're in, and we'd rather lose the job than tile over something that's going to fail.
Usually because ours includes floor levelling and full waterproofing and theirs doesn't. Put the two side by side and look for separate lines covering strip-out, self-levelling, primer, bond breakers, two membrane coats and a compliance certificate. If they're not itemised, they're either not happening or they'll arrive as a variation. Happy to walk through a competitor's quote with you, no obligation.
Lippage is when one tile edge sits higher than its neighbour — you catch it with a bare foot or a mop. It comes from an uneven substrate or rushed laying, and it's the single most common complaint about tiling work. We level the substrate first and use levelling clips on large-format tiles, which is why our prep line looks expensive next to someone who plans to bed it out in adhesive.
Either. Plenty of customers choose their own and that's fine — just order 10–15% extra for cuts, wastage and future repairs, and check every box is the same batch. If you'd rather we handle it, our trade pricing usually lands close to retail anyway and the batching is our problem instead of yours.
Because buildings move and grout doesn't. Every internal corner and every wall-to-floor junction gets flexible silicone, colour-matched to the grout. If you see grout cracking out of the corners of a shower, that's why — and it's a leak waiting to happen.
A materials deposit on booking, then staged payments tied to visible milestones — waterproofing signed off, tiling complete, grout and silicone done. Never tied to dates, always to work you can actually see. It's all set out in the quote before you sign anything.
Send us the room and roughly what you're after. We'll come back within four working hours with a time to measure up. Urgent? Just call — we answer.
